Is it about time that Milton Keynes had a Primark?

It seems that the people of Milton Keynes have had a chance to voice their opinion on whether or not they would like to see the fashion giant Primark in their shopping centre.


On April 3rd, members of the Milton Keynes community were given the opportunity to vote for or against a Primark store to set up shop in the former Co-op premises in Bletchley.

In efforts to encourage people to vote for the new store, four Facebook campaigns were launched attracting over fourteen thousand users to these groups.

Milton Keynes Council wrote to Primark late last year, recommending a suitable site for the store. However, head office responded saying that there was likely to be “insufficient footfall” to merit a Primark in Milton Keynes.

As soon as the voting poll was initiated in the town council’s Queenway office, over one thousand visited the polling station and over two thousand people from surrounding areas used the online system to cast their vote.

Town council chair Keith Ely even remarked that “the sheer volume of the response from all over Milton Keynes has taken even us by surprise...the votes have flooded in.”

With the poll drawn to a close; the council petition, comments, email and letter will be sent to the store’s head office in a final attempt to get a Primark in Milton Keynes.
